Workplace Health & Safety

Thousands of Saskatchewan residents are employed directly in the production of pork. Workers can be exposed to safety and health risks unique to the hog barn environment. These risks include in-barn air quality, animal handling, noise levels, chemical usage, gases and dust produced from manure handling and the potential for zoonotic disease transmission from pigs to humans.

Risks can be minimized and/or eliminated by adhering to recommended workplace safety regulations and following guidelines and training procedures in place at your place of employment. Protection of employees' health and safety is critical to successful pork production. Awareness is key to reducing risk and injury on the job.

Sask Pork has developed the Workplace Safety and Health Guide for the Saskatchewan Hog Industry and it’s available for download here.
